“Look, there is definitely a power plant where the big chimney stands!” Children cheered pointing to the direction of power plant as the bus just went out of North Third Ring of Xuzhou. On May 19, Xuzhou/Tongshan China Resources Power Co., Ltd. (referred to as Xuzhou/Tongshan Project) held a public open day with the theme of “Clean Energy, Green Power Plant”, and a total of 57 citizens of Xuzhou participated in this event.

Chen Chaohu, Deputy General Manager of Xuzhou/Tongshan Project, welcomed the citizens and introduced the development history of China Resources and the basic situation of the project company. He reminded everyone matters needing attention during the site visit with humorous language, and hoped that this event would be rewarding for every guest. After watching promotional videos of CR Group and CR Power, the guests expressed their appreciation for the involvement of CR’s business in all aspects of public life.

Before the on-site visit, EHS Department of the project company informed the guests of safety matters after entering the plant, including the location of major hazard sources, emergency assembly points, emergency disposal methods and labor protection, and guided the guests to wear safety helmets and vests correctly. The guests visited Science Exhibition Hall, Cooling Tower of Unit 5, Operation Layer of Steam Turbine and Control Room in Phase III successively. Scientific communication experts from “Light of Electric Power” and professionals from Technical Department of the project explained the principles of thermal power generation, environmental protection standard discharge, as well as structure and operation principle of cooling tower in detail. While guiding the guests to experience the roaring turbonators, the serious and quiet control room, and shocking artificial waterfall in the tall cooling tower, they explained the complicated principle of power generation to the guests in a concise manner, and transformed their misunderstanding that power plants caused serious pollutions, which truly displayed a clean, efficient and green power plant. Science and Technology Counselor of Standard Construction Office explained the most basic principles of power generation to the children, and gave out components and parts of hand generators, allowing them to create hand-cranked generators by hands on their own and enjoy the fun of power generation.

Xuzhou/Tongshan Project actively fulfills the social responsibility of a red central enterprise. They have several public open days every year to spread scientific knowledge about thermal power to the public since it became one of the science education bases of Xuzhou in 2015. It was the National Science and Technology Week of 2019 from May 19 to 26, as well as the 31st Science Popularization Week of Xuzhou. As a science education base in Jiangsu, Xuzhou/Tongshan Project actively participates in activities and vigorously promotes scientific spirit to truly benefit the masses with scientific popularization activities.
